Well Calcutta was nice. It was actually pretty sedate and I had fun walking around exploring. They have a lovely park and museum. I got time to practice my guitar in the park on Sunday. It was amazing how the city just shut down on Sunday, proof of the English Catholic influence I suppose. Hardly anyone on the streets and no taxis. I wasn't even hampered all that much. I still had to chat with random people who found me tantalizingly interesting. A few guys even sat there watching me in the park practicing scales on my guitar. Go figure. I ran into a girl I chatted with in Bodhgaya a few days before. The sights of Calcutta are not many so I just basically chilled and planned my next move. As stated before, I bumped up my flight to Bangkok and then after I decided that I had indeed had enough of Asia so I booked a flight to Rome, Italy on the 27th. This required me to get a train to Delhi. It was a 27 hour train trip. As usual I was slung into the top berth. Luckily I had a fully charged iPod and fresh batteries in my palm and a book to read so I kept myself entertained. Then instead of getting a room in Delhi, since it was only about 12 hours till my flight, I decided to crash at the airport which was a good decision cause Delhi was still filthy and I got in at like 11pm and they had a lounge I could stay in. I was even able to recharge my iPod there! Yeah! So the next day I got a flight to Rome. It was a 10 1/2 hour flight to London, and a two hour flight to Rome so technically I had been in transit for about 52 hours. When I got to Rome I missed the last train into town cause my flight was a little late so I had to get a taxi with some other folks who were on the flight. Everyone was very nice though and they dropped me off at my hostel. I ran for a few minutes but noone would answer so I had to go to a hotel and get a room for the night. Seeing as how I was still on India time I was bright eyed and bushy tailed at 2am in Rome so I went of course for an espresso and thought better of it, so I got a beer and some cheese puffs. I hadn't slept so well for months! Here are some pics of Calcutta. Next entry...Rome!
