We're up at 4:45. Have to be at California Dreamin's departure point , a hotel/winery by 5:45am. This is a beautiful resort,I wouldn't mind staying here. We take photos as the balloon is being inflated. Then are instructed in which postion to stand. We're used to "open baskets" that you can move around in. This basket is divided into three rows. Front, middle, back. I don't know if I'm going to like this. Airborn and floating along, I'm a happy flier, as is Kary. We're floating slowly over the vineyards and wineries. This is a different type of ballooning than what we are used to. In New Mexico and Pennsylvania, the balloon floats long distances, in this area of California, the distances are shorter, but the air time is the same. We lower close to workers in the vineyard. Skim just over orange trees. A perfect moment. Which all too soon ends in an empty field.
After being transfered back to California Dreamin's property, we are met with breakfast, chocolate, orange juice and wine. I wish we had the time to do this again! This delightful experience was only $150 per person. Much lower than most flights we have taken. And they did not include the luscious breakfast.
Back in the car and the final drive to San Diego for our 1:40pm flight home. Of course, nothing is easy when we travel. Checking our carry on baggage thru the screener, we are quickly "intercepted" by the guys with the guns. It seems the only piece of trophy part that I kept with us on the trip (because it was a piece of thinner glass) is throwing up an alarm in the screening area. The guards think it looks like there is a bayonet in my carry on. I try to say "just open it,  it's only a glass trophy piece.
Now the question is how many guards and how many guns to open my bag. Of course my hands are still up over my head and I am not allowed to move.
Yep, after over-cautiously pulling it out of the bag they finally decide this was a Rookie "screeners error." At least we won't miss our flight. Of course we have to travel with this thru another airport, so maybe they will notify them in exchange. Now, if the UPS'd trophies have arrived safely, I will be a happy girl.
Where did the time go and how did it go so quickly. This is one trip I would do again. And the song is right. It NEVER rains in Southern California.
