Lubljiana deserves more then the half a day we spent there. It is a lovely town with an abundance of bridges crossing the river that splits the town in two. It has a dragon as it's symbol and an old castle up on a hill that overlooks the old town.
When we got to Piran all we wanted to do was swim - we were having withdrawal symptoms - but we had to find a place to stay first. It wasn't possible to drive into the old town which consists of narrow cobbled alleyways and old terraced buildings, so we parked our car and walked in to see what we could find. It was hot (and I had come down with a cold) and we were keen for a little bit of air conditioned luxury. What we found was a little sweat box on the third floor of a guesthouse with a bunk bed and a shared bathroom but it did have a cheery atmosphere, included beakfast and was a 30 second walk from the sea where we could SWIM!
The sunset was wonderful - we sat at an outdoor restaurant, eating a seafood platter (none of it was battered much to Andrew's disappointment) and with the most amazing view.
