From there we headed to Salt Lake City to see Depeche Mode - for the first time ever I had luggage get sent on a different plane - I think it may have had something to do with not tipping the guy who did the baggage, but we didn't have any US currency yet!!! Anyhoo, Salt Lake City is, as one would expect, boring and full of Mormons. There are some vestiges of alternative culture though, or DM wouldn't have been playing there. Slightly disappointing experience tho, as Dave Gahan's voice was clearly still far from 100% and he had the audience singing the bulk of the choruses - seriously, just about every song. Which kinda sucked. Other than that the sound was a bit off, but overall it was still a good show and worth checking out. The visuals were brilliant.
The following day we wandered around downtown Salt Lake, which is pretty dull, saw the Mormon Tabernacle, and people were creepily friendly as you would expect. Yaaaawn. The food, by the way, was awful, everything we ate in SLC was yuuuuuck. So it was a HUGE relief to fly out to San Francisco, in an even tinier plane than before, and we went out for a FaNTASTIC dinner with M and another Perth lad who's name I forgot.
