Several hours later, and several hundred songs played at random on the Ipod later we arrived at Christchurch. This was purely a stopover night as we were heading further north to Kaikoura the next day, but would be returning so left the sightseeing till then.
SB: Despite our rapid tour of both islands in NZ in under a month, we've tried to keep the long drives to a minimum (although we now have a totally new perception of what a long drive means by the way after hiring vehicles in NZ and Oz). But we couldn't really avoid the long drive to Christchurch from QT to Christchurch (about 7 hours), but did try and break it up with a few scenic stops. There's always great mountain views whenever driving in NZ aswell - although Colin Corolla hated the hills. Along the way we came across some of the bluest coloured lakes we've ever seen at Lake Tekapo (apparently due to the 'rock flour' in the water refracting the sunlight). Kt absolutely loved them but I was too tired to get overly excited by them.
