KT:  After taking a number of detours, the Wicked van finally made it to South Box Hills, Melbourne.  This was to be our home for a while, staying with friends Dave and Kath.  This is absolute luxury, a gorgeous place in a quiet area with garden, and we get to sleep in a double bed!  A real bed!  Catching up with Dave and Kath was fantastic.  It has been a while but it's just like old times.  Dave and Kath prove to be our local tour guides giving us hints and tips on things to do for the week.

We did so many things, too much to type up, but here's a quick summary:

We spent 2 days in the city.  The weather was perfect blue skies and we enjoyed walking around and using the trams to see the sights... Botanical gardens and the Shrine of Rememberence, Federation Square especially all the deck chairs out for the people to watch the cricket live from the MCG, QV Market sampling the fruits and spanish donuts with chocolate!  The Laneways, a hive of cafes and the crazy graffiti artwork.  The Docklands with its art journey and a particular highlight for Steve touching Kylie's bum!!

We enjoyed going out of the city to St Kilda, this was extremely hot so no sunbathing for us.  We loved it here, great shops, Luna park, cafes, the beach, the pier and our pot of beer (SB: like a thimble - sip slowly) at the famous Espy's Hotel.

A real treat for us was going out into the city at night for a lovely meal.  Great views of the Southbank and a great surprise outside the Crowne Casino.  Huge flames lining the river every hour.  We couldn't not go in the casino...

SB:  It was like being transported to the Vegas!  Huge place - couldn't even see the end.  Being backpackers we restricted the stakes, but, thanks to good angel Kath, we managed to leave $50 up!!  Found a great spot for drinks afterwards above Fed Square - live music and great views.

Dave and Kath turned full time tour guides at the weekend, and the weather went crazy, reaching 41 degrees at one point! (thank god for air con in the car - not like the Wicked van!).  Went out to the Yarra Valley to do some wine tasting (Dave, heavily supported by Kt, recommends the Yarring Station fortified Shiraz) and then cheese tasting (hot cow for me).  Then to the Dandenongs with the sight over the whole of Melbourne - amazing views.
We stopped for a bit of crazy time - feeding the lorrikeats.  Comedy stuff and they seemed to love KT!!

Sunday we took a trip south to the Mornington Peninsula once again seeing all the sights.  Enjoyed great fish and chips, beach walks, and amazing sunset.  Congrats to Dave on being mini golf champ - although without that 13 at the 2nd I'd have worried you!!
