After getting our luggage I met Allan's family and we all piled into the mini bus for the trip to Lezo, a village about 20 minutes from Kalibo.  I took lots of pics on the way, they are here.

This was my first real look at the Philippine country,  a short drive through Kalibo, a city of about 60, 000, and into the country. The Family were all talking to Allan while I was just watching everything.  We soon were driving through the country,  past rice fields and small houses.

I don't remember much about arriving in Lezo, kind of sensory overload, but before long we were at Allan's parents home.  I am not sure what I was expecting, but this was not it. The house is made of cinderblock, no windows, but Bamboo slats, the floor is linoleum, Two bedrooms, with curtains for doors.  The kitchen and livingroom are one room, but the bulk of the cooking is done in the outside kitchen out the back door.  Inside you see up into the rafters, and the the walls are cinderblock.  They have a tv and stereo, and the chairs are made of wood.    The washroom is outside, and doubles as the shower (kind of, you fill up a bucket and pour that over your head) but the toilet flushes when you pour water down it.

I first thought, my gosh, what have I got myself into, but then decided it would be pretty much like camping!

There were a number of people living there including Allan's Mom and stepdad Rudy, Aunt Indak and another woman with her young daughter.  Raphael was also staying, but apparently has a home elsewhere.  Allan's sister Katherine was also there, along with her husband Alvin.

We hung around at the house for a bit, then decided to go into town and go to an internet café.  This was a small room full of kids all enjoying the internet.  We were there for a bit, then we headed back to Lezo and to bed.

Course the adventures didn't end there. The bed was like a normal ikea bd, with a foam mattress, but this was the first time I slept under a mosquito net.  During the night I had to get up to pee....wow, is it ever dark.....I stumbled out of bed...didn't want to turn a light on (first I didn't know where the switch was, second, if I hit a light the lights went on through most of the house) and remembered I was told peeing was ok out by the trees.   I wandered to where I thought was the front door, and promptly tripped over Raphael who was sleeping on the floor by the front door.  I headed over to the back door and finally went outside into the yard...felt like I was peeing in the jungle, and there were all sorts of little noises as the creatures of the night scurried around.  Next morning Allan thought to tell me about the chamber pot at the end of the bed......
