Flag of Italy  , Italian Riviera,

As we arrived by train into one of the five towns of Cinque Terre, we were a little apprehensive as to what we would find in our destination town called Vernazza. Almost 1 year ago this tiny riviera town endured devastating mudslides, and from our online readings we weren't quite clear as to what would be waiting for us. Well, devastation and destruction was not at all what we found. Instead we came across a vibrant, bustling tourist stop that greeted us with imbibing tourists and social locals. Yes Vernazza is still on its way to recovery, but "before" photos displayed along the main drag proved a contrast of the town's constructive strides.  Although it takes all of 5 minutes to walk from one end of town to the other, we never once found ourselves bored and ready to leave. We easily filled up our days with meandering walks around town, hanging out at the beach, and eating much too much tasty Italian cuisine. I loved just sitting back and people watching, especially when it came to observing the interaction among locals. The kids would play in the streets, grandparents flocked around with a watchful eye, and moms and dads would work hard to maintained their livelihoods; from restaurants to gift shops or both. Yet, the entertainment from people watching didn't end there, as our ears were consistently deciphering sounds from within our studio apartment. We soon learned that your business was the whole town's business....literally. We heard it all: neighbors conversations and/or rantings, toilets flushing, whoopee making sounds, telephones ringing, and annoying bird chirps that I have never heard before(heck maybe the birds making whoopee too). Because of this culmination of delightful chaos, I give Vernazza two enthusiastic thumbs up! So stop by if you are in the neighborhood. If you are curious about the mudslides, please check out the you tube video that I have attached.
