Up early this morning from our apartment in Christchurch for the train ride to Greymouth. I ended up sitting across from a friendly Swedish girl also backpacking, so we shared itineraries and plans. THe train ride was long, but gorgeous views, especially through the mountains. It was unfortunately (but appropriately) grey when we arrived in Greymouth, but it was kind of a girm little town anyway, so the weather just added to the generaly ambience (or lack thereof). We left quickly for Franz Josef.
