I bet you were expecting my first update to be from a foreign country? Wrong. Unintentionally, I have started my travels with a tour of the lovely mid-Atlantic region. After a power 3 weeks of trip planning, wrapping up at work, and saying my farewells, I hopped on an Amtrak (gracias travel points) train from Philly up to NYC (flights were cheapest out of JFK). My friend Wendy met me for lunch before sending me off on the trains to the airport. I had a connection in Dulles before hopping on my overnight flight to Buenos Aries....or at least that was the plan. After sitting on the runway at JFK for 1.5 hours, the plan changed. My BA flight was taking off just as I was landing in Virginia and my next option out was 24 hours later. That´s right, 3 trains, a plane, and 8 hours later, I had made it 2 hours South of Philly.
Luckily (extremely...how many mommies with 3 kids ages 4 and under answer their phones on Sunday at 10:30pm?) my friend Trish took me in :) It was great to catch up with her, meet the newest member of the brood, and not spend 24 hours in airport and hotel. While I spent most of the night and following day refereeing a tight match between AT&T and United Airlines (fierce competition of who could frustrate me most), I did get to appreciate a day in the life of Trish in lovely McLean. Pancakes for breakfast before Saylor headed off to school and Jessie went to music class. When Saylor returned, we practiced some ballet moves and reviewed my Spanish numbers - uno to nueve.
We stopped by the park and then headed to one of my former ´hoods for dinner at Rio Grande. We met up with another college teammate, Courtney, and I got to meet her precious little girl, Maddy. Then back to Dulles......
