It didn't last long though, not long heading south from Danang we just passed a bridge and Chien altered his line to go round some guy pushing his bike across the road, Chien must of pulled his front break, it seems like that is the only one working anyway.. The front wheel skidded on sand that was lining the side of the road causing us both to hit the floor instantly, luckily Chien provided a soft landing for me, I took a roll, scratching my arms up a little bit but it was handy as the momentum sprung me back onto my feet, so as quick as I had hit the floor I found myself standing up again looking down on Chieng and his bike on top of him. I picked the bike up and pulled it to the road, the bike was fine.. Chieng looked a mess.. There was deep cuts on each corner of his body.. His fake easy rider jacket was ripped and a large bump appeared on his wrist looking like a bone was broken. We handily crashed outside a pharmacy so went over to buy some stuff to fix him up, The lady at the counter said many people are being caught out at the same spot.. Could the pharmacy be laying sand traps to boost buisness? I doubt it, but could be a cunning plan..
After that happened I didn't feel safe riding pillion any more, we got to the Cham site called My Son.. and I couldn't concentrate on the ancient buildings.. it was a little dissapointing, I shot round it within 45 minutes, it's quite small and there's more walking done than actual site seeing. It looks like something i'd expect to see in India.
I decided to scale down my tour a bit, instead of going up to famous sites like hamburger hill and khe sanh, which even though I'd love to visit I wasnt in the mood no more and just wanted to head south, ..when I left My Son I told Chien I didn't want to finish the tour with him, he started up some B/S saying all the hotels are booked and that his boss would be upset, I told him the boss would understand considering you caused your client to hit the deck but I could tell if I quit the tour now without paying up full Chiens good attitude will turn more awkward, i was remaining polite but in the back of my head was thinking f**k it, he could have got me squashed under a truck if we fell to the other side of the road, I don't owe him anything.. but had to come to some sort of an agreement. I shortened the tour to go just a little further down the coast to the site of the My Lai massacre, but this time Chiens going to bring down my own bike to drive.. after which I will be dropped at a nearby beach hotel and the tour finished. Chien was 'nice' enough to give me a days discount off after i pressured him, but the guys seriously overpaid and greedy.. i wouldnt recomend anyone going on these tours, ive learnt they are very puushy and should have see it coming, it obviously saw me a mile away..the money i lost by shortening the tour ive put down to a lesson learned.. to rent a moped for a day is under 8 dollars in vietnam, much better value than the easy rider gangsters.
