It's déjà vu again, the Chinese love to stare at westerners whilst in the waiting room or on the trains.. I thought I got used to it in the Caribbean, here it's ten fold.. I have a great spot on the train for my bag partly because I got in there early but more to do with my carriage being half full.. I am on Carriage 3, bed compartment 3, level 3 bed. In Chengdu i felt ill, so i'm glad to be getting away from the common cold that was going round at the hostel.. I'm even more looking forward to get to the tropics where I can start using my sandals again properly instead of using them just for cum stained shower floor protection.

Last night on the train some fat guy chose to sleep on the top bunk next to me, he was only there for a few hours so not too sure whether he had paid for the bed or just claimed it for a bit because it was free. Anyway snoring doesn't bother me normally but this guys snoring was hitting 160 decibels easy.. It was as loud as someone shouting full force.. I had to put my ear buds in and the quilt over my head to get the snoring down to a reasonably loud level.. He was gone by the time I woke, I am hoping he was chucked off the moving train in the middle of nowhere by some other irate passenger..

I hear the word nigger used very frequently in Chinese conversations, I don't know what it means yet.. I'm thinking maybe it's "here" or "there".. I don't know.. I would love to know how the Chinese diaspora have got round the use of the word when chatting away in their shops or resturants in black communities, imagine a tense situation where a touchy black person who use the word as a free ticket to violence, misunderstood a Chinese to Chinese conversation explaining the situation of a problem in the shop when the "here" or "there" word was used.. If I were in their shoes and heard it I would be sure they were rascially bad mouthing me.. it must of happened numerous of times around the world.. I will dig deeper on the meaning of the word.

the train rides are very scenic, they cut through rural china.. Rice terraces, straw hats, hand made roof tiles, cool scarecrows, small thin wooden boats on the many waterways.. its a joy to ride them.

I arrived in Guilin and stated at the Flowers hostel that was conviently located right across from the train station, the place was nothing special but I got a good night sleep was ready to leave for Yangshuo in the morning.
