the hostel, shuyuan international hostel, on hostelworld can be booked cheaper if you look at 4 bed mixed dorm price @ 2 usd, my eyes normally scan for the biggest dorm rooms price, 3.08usd and book that.. i think its worth while taking advantage of, plus do book before hand, the regular backpacker of the street will be quoted 50 yuan for the same bed as their cheapest on hostelworld.

i boarded the Bus 306 which cost 7 yuan.. they are waiting just outside the citywalls opposite train station, avoid the 909 bus going or coming back, it's not express, stops to pick up anybody every 10 metres, fills the bus up so every seat is filled and adds an extra 30 people for standing room, misses the toll road to go the long bumpy way, and still charged me the same 7 yuan when I'm sure the locals must pay a max of two yuan.

the Terracotta army was great to see up close, there was a lot less excavated and restored than I used to believe but it was worth the stopover in Xi'an to see them.. Xi'an is worth more than just a stopover for the warriors but having read and hearing of others planning their departure before they even arrived I also became a sheep and followed the norm and didn't give the town a chance. its a shame.

i did manage to get out a see the drum tower and the bell tower, worth about 2 hours of your time between them, i was lucky as during the night snow had fallen and settled which made them even more pleasing to the eye. the food at hostel bar is the best western comfort food available i found during china, i took advantage and stocked up, i could have stayed an extra coupkle of days just to fill my stomach in there.

i was late leaving the hostel and knew it would be tight catching my train, no taxi would take me, very strange (i think they only want to take you in a certain direction as i had the same problem in another town later), no 603 bus was in sight and i was in a rush and couldnt be patient for it to turn up even though they are quite frequent so i took a motorcycle taxi, only this wasn't the normal speedy dash through the traffic at high instead I got onto a 'jogging paced' electric scooter, it was painfully slow but got me to the train station in time to run all the way to and down the platform to only sit down peering out through my carriage window for another 30 minutes..
