My first impressions are quite good with this 265 yuan train to xi'an, pronunced shee'anne, but I'd been calling it zion since I've arrived with everybody being too polite to correct me.. This experience brings me back some good memories when I was young with no worries, traveling with my dad and bro the length of France on a train and learning how big the country really was. I'm on the hard sleeper.. Sharing with five other Chinese on the bunks of my cabin and currently as i am typing this being kept an eye on by some strange guy thinking that I don't realize he is staring at me in the reflection of the window instead of peering through it.. a thin curtain to pull across would work wonders.. The lady on the top bunk across from me obviously doesn't want to get bed head and is dangling it halfway down to the middle bunk, check the pics..

The way they wake you up is quite good, some peaceful Chinese pipe background music is turned on low, then the softly spoken attendant speaks over the top for a bit then the lights go on.. I may have to try to incorporate in into my iPod alarm clock instead of the rude and irritating buzzer currently..

Last night I phoned the shuyuan hostel in Xi'an.. I was quoted 50 yuan.. I went back to look at the hostelworld site to find the rooms at only 20 yuan (later I found the cheapest room at 11 yuan intge middle of the list) and booked again for the cheaper price.. They go to meet the morning trains to bring you to the hostel and of course they had two pieces of paper with Chris on it.. I identified with the one with my surname on it knowing it's the cheaper booking and denied any knowledge of another chris.. I quickly bought my next day ticket out of Xi'an within two minutes of reaching it and piled into the van to go the hostel at the other end of town..

Here my friend Kate had left a little surprise for me.. As I was confirming which Chris I was in the bus, some next traveller piped up saying 'oh you are chris.. How was Jamaica.. I know your Son.. you're brothers with Graham'. I was immediately freaked out by this stranger or maybe stalker calling out all my background information and was thinking he must be my brothers friend or been reading up on this blog and hunted me down.. It turned out he was in the same room as Kate in Beijing and as I sent a message to her that I'm leaving that night on a train to Xi'an that I couldn't meet her.. Tom, the stalker, was also going on the same train so apparently was let in to some info to get me freaked out and it worked
