During the nightbus journey I woke up a little dazed and retrieved what I thought were my grey socks that had somehow jumped from my seat down the aisle before nodding off again.. In the morning I realised they were another passengers so tried to secretly hide them back under his chair but got caught and then given some strange looks.. I pretended I was asleep the remainder of the journey to avoid any more eye contact. I made a quit exit once I arrived in this half snowsports half gothic Emo town and found my way to the rather cold Bolsa de Porte hostel, I was given a nice double bed on a lower bunk and told that I can pay my bill before I leave..

I came here to see if my skateboarding skills could be transferred to the snow.. Everything you could need to have to go on the piste is up there ready to rent on the mountain.. I rented some waterproof pants, gloves and googles then walked round to the extreme ski school and signed up to a 3hr lesson with Pablo, costing a whopping 460 pesos.. This included a cash discount which is available on most things for sale around Bariloche.. I took to snowboarding like a duck to water and after a couple of hours was pulling off quick indie grabs from this makeshift snowramp.. The next couple of days I went up the mountain to start the real learning by myself.. My cocchyx, wrists and muscles took a real beating.. It has been the quickest if the board sports for me to pick up but also the most painful.. For the next week after that I was going up and down, the many routes of the Catedral resort, and by the last day I was confidently using the red routes ment for experienced riders only..

My time in Bariloche was a great experience picking up a new sport, a few things bugged me though.. First was why do the skiers and snowboarders like to get the biggest goggle tan line possible? It looks especially silly on the girls as from a small distance it looks like they have a after eight shadow.. Also I had to pay 15 pesos for my locker daily, if I had paid in advance the woman on the cash register most days tried to charge me again for it.. and lastly someone stole my foodbox from the hostel kitchen, full of teabags, spices, cooking oil, ketchup and most importantly some nice chocolate fairy cakes.. It must have been karma for my dirty sock thieving the took place on the bus here..

When leaving town I wanted to check out the Old Patagonian express steam train that still runs a couple of hours south of here, I had been told it runs on Saturday so spent a couple of days longer than planned on the ski slopes before I left, when I turned up at the town on the Friday I was told it only runs on Tuesdays and Thursdays! shit.. But I couldn't wait around wasting more days so decided I'd had enough of Argentina and booked a ticket straight to Santiago in Chile..
