On the flight to panama city someone opened up the top drawstring on my bag, nothing was taken but left me a little bit paranoid on the return leg which is a cocaine route, so i had my bag wrapped up in cellophane which cost 9 bucks. I arrived back into Cuba and the immigration guy was totally silent and let me through within seconds, this time I hadn't booked any accomodation and I'd lost my onward ticket receipt aswell. Now on to customs, this guy didn't like my bag as it was too small, its small being 35 litres anyway but after it had been shrink wrapped it looked more like a 10 litre day bag.. So I was whisked in to the ion drug testing machine room again and passed with flying colours.
On walking out of the airport this time I thought I'll be able to find the cheaper 15$ Lada taxis to get into town, I walked around for a few minutes a couldn't see any.. I also looked for the whole in the fence Peacefrog was talking about but couldn't remember where he said it was and the connexion bus seems too much trouble so opted for a 20$cuc OK taxi to centro Havana.
My two favourite islazol hotels were full up so chose to check out this next cheap hotel on the Prado main street, its name is Casa del Cientifico. It was way over priced (I may have been less harsh If I could've snagged the cheaper room with shared bathroom) and pretty dirty.. plus when I went out to buy my train ticket I came back to see my locked door had been opened and left just ajar.. Someone had obviously had a snoop around whilst I was out but nothing was taken maybe because I had taken time to hide my valuables.
The train ticket to santiago de cuba was booked for Friday evening as it goes every other day, I should have really booked it for that evening because I really wasted the two extra days in havana instead of wasting the one nights price of the accomodation at the cientrifico hotel.
Overall the train ride was hell but at times enjoyable, it cost me $65 and you save on accomodation as you sleep on your seat.. The train was ment to leave at 7pm and arrive at ten in the morning, the train left 4 hours late and then lost another 3 hours somewhere on the way. The aircon was set so low it could kill old people, during the night I was shivering so unpacked my clothes and put on an extra pair of trousers and my three other tshirts and I was still cold. When the sun started to hit the train the aircon could now not keep up and the train started to get hot, sweaty and stinky.
