The title gives away what i got up to but i'll carry on.. I remember seeing bob marleys birth place on tv many years ago and thought then i'd love to go, and i finally made it.. I wasn't planning on blowing my budget with the offers of the taxi drivers in town of $50-$60 USD, so hit on the route taxi route to get me there.. because obviously the locals living at nine miles have to get home and away somehow..

I got slightly overcharged on my first leg to Claremont, which cost me 200, but should have been max. 100 jamaican dollars (1.5usd).. Claremonts a nice small town halfway up in the hills, when i was dropped off near the towns clocktower for my onward leg, i was met by a few guys offering me expensive charters to nine miles and telling me there isn't a cheap route taxi from here, i walked off for a quick beef patty and cherry milk.. then befriended the staff there to get some honest info about the next leg up to bobs house. Now i had the true info. i walked back to the clock tower and told the guy i know there's route taxis up there and where are they.. some cool jamaican on the street overheard and pointed me in the direction of mark (876-851-7984) who runs that route and also lives in nine mile.

My fellow passengers included some MILF who was sitting next to me.. her cleavage was smack bang in my view of the rear-view mirror the whole bumpy way.. anyway, mark dropped me off for 150 JDollars and offered to pick me up and take me back to Claremont when i call him. I thought it would cost me more because he might call it a charter on the way back but he charged the same.. So the bob marley mausoleum was great, we were treated to a sighting of bob marleys mother Cydella coming home from the local market, just as the tour started, an old guy on a banjo who gave bob his first guitar and a walk uphill to the king of reggaes old home. After the tour it started pissing down violently, i propped myself up at the bar across the road and waited for mark to come and take me back to claremont.

I have some good news too, i am on the way to sorting out a new bank card being sent to me which hopefully means i'll be able to keep on travelling a lot longer, i was pretty depressed at the thought of going home early and my brother has helped alot in keeping away from london, thank you bro..

My visa would have run out on saturday so on thursday i went down to the immigration office in St.Anns bay and managed to be granted a one month extension. the guy was stamping my passport was asking all the same questions of how much money, where you staying and return ticket questions.. this time i learnt my lesson and replied directly to them and he seemed pretty happy with my answers so stamped me there and then.

Whilst staying in ochi i found that that town doesn't really have much to interest me, everyday i was there i went to have a look at st. anns bay instead.. it is just full of local jamaican culture, the town is pretty interesting as it's the bithplace of Marcus Garvey, the famous national hero and Rastafarian prophet. also it was the sight where chris columbus got stranded for a year on his 3rd voyage, the town has old english and spanish ruins and also i found the 'motel 64' which was 50 metres down from where the lonely planet map indicated, the price for a night is 2000 jamaican dollars, which is more expensive than the 1500 i'm paying up in Ochi.

nine miles 2008
Just back from Jamaica visited Nine Miles and the only difference from your photos is the new tomb of Bobs Mother who died unfortunately last month. It is situated facing the Bob Lives photograph on top of the hill. 'Crazy' the tour guide in the photo is still there and was in fact our guide to this unique place. You cannot visit Jamaica and not venture to Nine Miles it is well worth it!!
