After a late morning start we have finally started our road trip to Mexico.  For those of you who don't know our intended route here it is.  First we will make our way to Vancouver to visit some close family friends.  After that travel down the west coast of United States.  We hear the Oregon coast is very pretty and the Redwood forests in Northern California are high on our places of interest list.    North of LA we will cut west into Arizona, to avoid all the forest fires in the south.  We plan on entering Mexico at Sonoyta then working our way down the east coast all the way to Manzanillo.  The way home will be the most direct route.  Up central Mexico and straight up to Edmonton.  Of course the is the plan.  Haley will have a lot to do with how far we actually make it.

Our first day on the road has taken us further then planned.  We made it all the way to McLure where we called it a night.  McLure is roughly 50km outside of Kamloops.  Haley has been especially good in the van.  We stopped just out of Hinton for lunch, Jasper to stretch the legs and Blue River for dinner and time to let Haley play and get ready for bed.  Then an hour and half of driving after Haley went down for the night brought us to McLure.

Stopped in Hope for lunch and a dip in the local pool.  Water was a little cold and too much chlorine for our liking so we didn't last long.  Driving through BC we got a first hand look at the devastation the pine beetle is doing to the local forest.  Most of the drive all you could see was the color of rust for miles and miles from the dead trees.  Made it to the Vancouver area by early afternoon.  Enjoyed the afternoon in White Rock walking up and down the waterfront and out on the pier.  Had to bundle Haley up in her fleece suit to protect her from the cold damp wind.  Arrived early at friends house, just up the road, where we spent the night visiting.

Today we walked to the nearby Redwood Park.  Two brothers who lived in a tree house on the 80-acre of land in the late 1800's donated this park to the City of Surrey.  Around 1893 they started to plant the beginning of what amount to 32 different species of trees from all around the world, including a grove of redwoods that they started from seedlings.  The park consists mostly of evergreens some as large as one meter in diameter.   If this is just a small taste of what we will see in Northern California we are quite looking forward to it.

Will spend another evening visiting then head across the border in the early morning.  We hear the line-up could take hours especially being a weekend.

Hi Guys!
Glad to see you've had a great start!
Sounds like Haley is a born traveler.
Good luck at the boarder--
Looking forward to many more updates!

Looks like things are going well so far (touch wood). That child will know the inside of that van quite well by the time you get back methinks...
