Our event planner at the villas had organized a big discount
on captian Tamas glass bottom boat. So we were compelled to go and have a ride.
So we waited for our pick up with the mob from our place at
10.00 as arranged…… …….
it was longer than that!)
Yes it did arrive in the end, standing room only!
instead of being on first we were last. Luckily it was a short journey.
A well oiled junket is how I would describe our arrival.
Island Geezers (AKA Natives) were
playing the drums any tiny guitars,as well as singing to an audience of awaiting sailors. That was
the first intro to our crew.A snorkel is included as well, incase of
Just enough time for a flat white ,while waiting for our
Lucky for us it was high tide as the lagoon is littered with
rocks (actually lumps of corral) to avoid a premature end to our voyage ,the
crew managed to navigate successfully. We were taken to a snorkeling area ,where
we were instructed that if we got into difficuilties we just wave at the crew
They assured us they would wave back,LOL!!
Yes there were some fish there too,but really quite rough
thanks to the relentless trade winds that are prevailing here.So the swim was a
challenge, but worth it.Annemieke stayed in the boat ,so she could act as my
Thing is I spent as much time getting the water out of my
snorkel and goggles as I did geezering at the fish. Some peeps swam under the
boat which was entertaining.
Then I reboarded the said vessel with capitain Awsum, and co.
there seemed to be a lake in the boat. This was caused by a faulty valve
designed to let water out, and not in
front!LOL the jandals were floating around 4 inches (100mm) of fresh sea water.
Much to the amusement of the crew , to whom this is just normal.
Then captain Awesum reminded us of our earlier safety briefing. OK to set the scene its an open boat with a
roof only to the boat)The emergency exits are at the front ,the back and the
sides of the boat.LOL!!
Well fortunately this was not necessary as we got moving the
water just drained out the stern.
Then off to a sheltered Island for some lunch, but it took a
while so ended up snapping a few pics and managed to flatten the batteries to
our camera, which explains no photos from this point! :(
A wicked bbq fish lunch followed, then a show on how they
could survive on just the coconut tree
Ooh and I got involved in the culture side of the show.
Acting warrior I was, randomly picked from the 3 boat loads of peeps in the
crowd. Lucky me!! Although Annemieke says I was a good actor, well… enough
On the return voyage the crew thanked us for coming along,
otherwise they would have been in the pub drinking beer all day!! Nice!!
I couldn’t have been too bad as I got awarded a honorary
beach bum sticker upon our return. From Captain Awsum, no less!!
Back to the future was how I was thinking when we arrived at
our “diner” for the night. As we had been there before, remember the $10 Mohitos.
The deal was $15 burger drink and a round of mini golf. They
didn’t tell us that the teams were all mixed up,randomly. So it was with a
bunch of strangers, which kind of made it interesting.
Murray was the guy in his 60s who confessed to having 6 gins
and two beers before he got there. Obviously he wanted the free drink! Jan was
a UK woman,in her 20s,but I didn’t hold
that against her.ANDREE he was a very serious german and actually paced out his long shots
,before missing the target,LMAO!! But we didn’t hold that against him. He
really wanted a hole in one, but it didn’t happen. Another lol! Ooh and a kiwi
chic who was the scorer. So we all took turns at missing the hole (one club per
team).So it took a while
Prizes were promised for all sorts of awards. But the
cunning dude, he just delayed the prize giving all night (I think the plan was
you would stay and drink, therefore forgetting about the promised rewards).Or
just leave ,we did the latter. Yes it was worth the $15 . just.
Back to the villas to recharge our batteries!!
