Its been a funny sort of day, with the weather still playing up. Despite some of Auckland flooding we remained  un-scathed!!This morning we still had rain ,but it eased fairly early on. The main problem was with wind gustibles. With high wind warnings we were prepared to knuckle down for another night. We kept a keen eye on the internet wind gustible meter which told us the recent wind speeds. Gusting 60 to 70 km per hour  was a bit high for our slab sided bus.

We filled in time by doing washing at the local laundromat, as well as some train spotting at the local train station. It doesnt help when the locomotive is running a half hour late!! Im thinking Auckland train service must really suck for the commuters. While there they were busy announcing another cancelled train basically cutting the centre city and all other branches off. Pity as we were thinking of getting a day pass. I managed to snap a commuter train at Rainui  Train station for Lincoln and Eleanor. Tell Lincoln it was a diesel, and it went really fast!!

Fortunately, after lunch we noted reduced wind gusts and the tent had finally dried out for the first time since Big Day Out (Friday). So with the one opportunity weve had so far  to escape Auckland we were off!!

Destination Hamilton. The journey consisted of several more wind gusts which I shall describe in terms of a clock. Given that Im driving with my hands at  10 to two then when the wind gusts came along I was driving at 5 to 3. Occasionally iy was 4 oclock even.!! So I guess I was driving back to the future!!LOL!!Needless to say that we got here in one piece!!

While no surface flooding on the main roads we noticed the Waikato river was swollen. Also a new mystery car for you all to guess at. Not many interesting vehicles  on the road today. Although we saw an old HQ Holden wagon it couldn't keep up with us so no photo of that!

Unfortunately  Atom ant and his friends climbed the tent to slip inside our kombi. We will soon fix them with some bug spray. While the Ants  are at all the camps we go to only the Auckland ants seemed to be more persistent!! We sure don’t want to bring them home with us.

On the way when we arrived in Hamilton we  called in to see James and Lisa, with their  daughters  Abby and Bella!  They live in  a nice house by the river, and very interested in the Kombi. I think they will make them into Gypsies yet!! Had a good chat to James about  all thing Mechanical for a while.
