Next thing we know its mid day and we still have to pack up the tent etc!!More like mad day!!! However we had all under control and managed to navigate our way to Rotorua. As we are osing google maps ,things work pretty good unless you happen to get lost (and we do) where there is no coverage!! We then drive till we have cover or ask someone with a j et ski,or just fluke it. One time we were unsure left or right so went left and 100m away awas our turn off!!
However we had a nice coffee and a chance to blog in Rotorua .But on the way out we encountered our first T.J. ( traffic jam). There was road works area speed 50km/hr but the traffic was moving at 10 mph or less. Crawling in first gear even!! We soon realised why. The heat was melting the new seal and all the freshly laid stone chip was sticking to thr tyres, making a big racket on the inner guard metal. Sounds awful on anew paint job too!!that was 4km long so took a while!!
The journey was a good one for the bus as mostly down hill. I sat on 60 mph and a bit quite often. Although the engine speed was higher than usual the motor wasn't working that hard. There was this Police patrol car which was using us as a decoy,by following close behind and he drove on the left shoulder of the road the opposing traffic didn't have a sporting chance!!Very sneaky!! Then he passed us and used the same trick with the car in front. We think we were too slow for him. We werent impressed when he did a u turn in front of us either.!!
Later I added some oil for the first time in the north Island!! So my theory about going 55mph and not using seems to be sound.
From there we went through Cambridge and got to Hamilton finally around 6 oclock. We decided initially to taxi to town for dinner as the kombi will be full of stuff (no tent up as only one nighter). However a better Idea was to get a cabin and thus use the vw to get to town. turned out a great Idea as the extra cost of the cabin less than the taxi fare.
Had a nice Indian dinner in town, which gets quite busy with the Saturday night fever!!Our restaurant was quite busy while the Irish pub was zero (they sent there chef home even!!). Thats always a good barometer of a restaurant.
Our camp Hamilton city, was very clean but also very un friendly, with 100s of rules like .Absolutely no cars to be washed in the camp grounds!!The shower clicks off after 30 seconds!! Requested limit 2 mins .Needless to say no regrets leaving here !!!
Another day 2 morrow ,another town. Heading Taurunga way!!
