The good thing about hangin with family is (I can't say it enough) eating. One night we had dinner with my mom's family at a place called Khu Du Lien Van Thanh - a local tourist eatery overlooking the water. The tables are actually built out on stilts over the water. The food was exeptional. Present were my Uncle Tham, his wife and daughter, my Ye Hong and Uncle Anh and their son Dat and my Aunt Op.
The next night was partying with my Dad's brother Nam from Hanoi. He owns a motorcyle parts shop and we at a luxurous mix of food - sentinal crabs steamed fresh (my favourite!), an amazing mushroom hotpot with so many different types of mushrooms I couldn't even keep track of. My uncle Nam is quite the character and we were actually able to have good conversations with him and his two sons (who both spoke perfect English). Uncle Nam even speaks a little French so it was amusing to see Dave practice his rusty French with him.
