It's still raining! We packed up and trundled off down SH10, some ways before Puketona is a winery. It's and independent and only sells its wines from the winery not in any stores. Cottle Hill, the wines were really nice $5 to taste 5 wines and if you then bought a bottle you got the $5 for the tasting knocked off the price, bargain. Of course Robert and I had a tasting each, which meant we tried 10 wines each and then bought a bottle of 2004 Chardonnay and a bottle of white port. Mmmmmmm.
We had a leaflet for the Sunbeam Motorcycle & Pioneer Museum which was on SH11 just above Kawakawa, unfortunately it wasn't there. We asked locally and found out that the placed had suffered in a landslide and not recovered from it yet! So we moved on. The day seems to have completely run away from us today and we drove back up to Paihia. We checked out the diving situation for tomorrow at HQ diving, unfortunately with the weather being so crap they weren't going out tomorrow. We agreed to leave it until after the New Year and come back then.
We headed of to find a campsite. There isn't a Top 10 over here so we ended up at a place called Haruru Falls Resort. DO NOT STAY HERE! It has a lovely view of the waterfalls and has sites right up to the waters edge. However, when you have cooked your meal in the kitchen there is nowhere to eat it and the owners are the most unfriendly, unhelpful and cantankerous people we've met in NZ. We were made to feel like we were interrupting their lives, and the woman seemed to drink more than any customer. Not a pleasant experience.
Didn't really feel like we accomplished much today. The Treaty house tomorrow, so hopefully that will be better.
