The Monterey Bay Aquarium was our first stop today. We only had a couple of hours to explore and it really wasn't enough time, but we made the most of it and had a great morning. The exhibits there were fantastic, it is a very different aquarium to Sydney so hard to compare, and different favourites for us all, but we were all impressed by the jellyfish exhibit.

After the aquarium, we headed down Highway 1 towards Pismo Beach, our next overnight stop.

This is the famous road that runs right along the coast and has such a dramatic coastline, beautiful even on a hazy day.

First of all we did a quick portion of 17 mile drive which goes through the beautiful little town of Carmel. The architecture here is amazing, houses that look like they are out of a fairytale, and huge houses built right on the beach, $$$$$$$$ to live here.

Next we started to drive down the coast road. It was not a particularly clear day, but we could still see the rugged cliffs and rocky beaches along the way. It is a long drive as it is winding all the way and lots of people driving slowly taking in the sights.

We stopped to see a huge colony of elephant seals, and were also snuck up on by some very friendly squirrels that Ben patted, our own Dr Dolittle.

We spent the night at Pismo Beach in a very cute hotel with a garden area at the top of the cliff overlooking the beach and the sun setting over the Pacific. We hung out while the sun set, taking photos and playing with Dino the golden retriever.

We had dinner at a BBQ joint called Alex BBQ, where Nathan finally got to have some ribs.
