Where I stayed
This morning we awoke to pretty much clear skies (again), but the weather was a few degrees cooler than previous days. Our first activity for today was to go on the Staten Island Ferry via the NY Subway.
After struggling with the ticket machines and the lady in a booth that was trying to answer our questions whilst she talked on her mobile phone, we boarded the correct train to South Wharf. The ferry is free and goes past The Statue of Liberty. Unfort the ferry we were on you could not go up the top, so we had to squeeze out the back of the boat to take better shots. The statue is not as big as we thought it would be, but still impressive nonetheless.
Following the ferry ride, the rest of the day was for shopping. First stop was Macey's, the biggest department store in the world. Plenty of purchases later, we moved onto famous 5th Avenue, including FAO Schwartz, where we played the Big Piano. We also went to a huge NBA shop, The Disney store & the Yankees shop amongst others.
One small highlight was after buying some wine, we passed the NBC studios and there was a crowd peering inside. On moving closer for a gawk, we saw Mel Gibson preparing for an interview. Our 1st star spotted in NY.
We had dinner at the Irish Pig & Whistle, and then headed back up to the "Top of the Rock" to view the city at night, which was fantastic. We then finished up with delicious cup cakes from Magnolia Bakery, of Sex & the City fame. Another great day in this grand city.
