My very last European mini-vacation was to Playa del Ingles, Canary Islands! My friend Leigh and I went in celebration of the end of her semester! I had just got back from chilly Amsterdam and she just got back from Liverpool so we thought it was definitely time for the beach!

The Canaries belong to Spain, but are super close to Morocco, so we've technically been to Africa haha! Gran Canaria is a really cool island, but nothing like I expected! It is a desert Island with almost no plants, not even cacti! The only plants are the palm trees planted around the resorts. We flew into the main airport and it was extremely windy and kind of chilly, so immediately we were worried that our week in the sun would be ruined. But we took the bus all the way south to Playa del Ingles (rightly named as a ton of British people vacation there), and it was nice and hot with perfect blue skies!

Our apartment was awesome! We absolutely loved our cute little balcony and kitchen. Perfect for a cute girl's night in! The pool at our apartment building was also awesome. I definitely recommend Liberty to anyone travelling to the Canaries on a budget!  The only downside was that there was no free internet in the building.

On our first day, we arrived at our hotel super early, had an awesome poolside breakfast and started the hard work of getting a tan. Then we went to see the beach (which, unfortunately, was super windy, so we didn't stay long). We just had a super relaxing day in the sun, and then had a cute dinner on our balcony.

The second day we bought tickets for a "Dolphin Catamaran Excursion", it was our splurge for the week. A bus picked us up at our apartment and then took us to Puerto Rico (another beach town) where we caught a catamaran that took us dolphin and whale watching! It was really fun, we had lots of cocktails, and they played music so everyone was dancing. We only got to see one whale, but it was really close up! Then we went closer to shore for some swimming, snorkeling and tubing! It was a great afternoon. Then we had paella for lunch and headed back along the coast to Puerto Rico. It was a super relaxing way to see the island!

The next day we explored the Dunes of Maspalomas which looked exactly how I imagine the Sahara desert (which was pretty close to us actually), only a lot smaller. It was a little weird going through the dunes because it was right next to the nude beach, so lots of naked men and women roaming around. Then we had some beach time and before we knew it our last full day on Gran Canaria was over! We topped off the week with a club crawl organized by Pacha- a pretty well-known club in Playa del Ingles. Honestly, I wouldn't recommend it, it was a little overpriced and all of the clubs seemed the same!

All in all it was an amazing trip - definitely one of my favourites!
