Sunday 10/1 This morning my host Eric and I left Frankfurt and the German state of Hessen and traveled into the state of Baveria. Our first destination was Rothenburg ob der Tauber which is a medieval walled city in Bavaria. Click here to read what Wikipedia has to say about Rothenburg ob der Tauber

We spent a couple of hours walking around the city and then ate lunch inside the city at the Adria Restaurant. After a late lunch, we continued our drive towards Liechtenstein.

Since I am starting this blog on my Blackberry while actually in transit, I can say (Rajiv) that I am currently cruising down the Autobaun at 200km per hour!

We briefly traveled through both Austria and Switzerland to arrive in Vaduz which is the capital of Liechtenstein and boasts a total population of 5,000 residents. From Vaduz we traveled to Upper Liechtenstein through the towns of Triesenberg, Steg and on to our destination in Malbun traversing 17 switchbacks in approx 7km and crossing the entire country in the process. The town of Triesenberg sits 800 meters above and over looks the Rhine Valley. Our lodging destination of Malbun sits in an alpine valley in the southeastern corner of Liechtenstein. Our lodge sat at 1,600 meters above sea level (the ears equalized at least a half dozen times while climbing the mountainside!) Since we had no idea the hotel was in this Alpine ski village when we booked it online last night, we were both extremely pleased with the location and views as we wound our way up the mountainsides.

We arrived at the hotel early enough to have a long swim in the indoor pool before having dinner in the hotel restaurant. We were both pretty exhausted from the rather long drive from Frankfurt and walking around Rothenburg all day so we decided to turn in early so that we could explore Liechtenstein more tomorrow. (Besides, we are staying in a ski village in early October when there is no snow.....unless we want to go cow tipping, I don't think there is much to do up here in the clouds anyway!)

OK, I can't take it anymore...................
Ok Keith, e-mail me and tell me what weight clothes I need for the trip starting in Rome. Last time over I went from burning up to freezing. 4 shirts ,4 pants. Send suggestions, sent flights to BootsNAll travel last night, they are figuring up the cost of the ticket. If I have my way about it I will be seeing you in Rome. Wish I had not missed your birthday, 4 countries - not many people will be able to claim that............Love Beverly

Beverly, Weather is starting to turn and it has been a bit cooler the last couple days. Everyone is telling me we have only a couple more days before it really turns cold. Since Roma is still a few weeks away, I would assume it will be cold there by then as well. I would recommend you leave the bikini at home and bring some warm, comfortable cloths. Hope to see you soon. (PS. Maybe you should consider joining me in Delhi, Sydney, Auckland, Bangkok or the South Pacific instead of Rome to extend your summer....unless you just did not get enough of Europe before you had to abruptly leave last time)
