Left Eureka at 7:00 this morning, and rode the passes up and down on Rte 50 through Nevada to arrive at Carson City about 11:30.  Had a quick lunch and rode up over Rte 88 (Carson Pass) past Kirkwood ski area then down to Jackson, and home the way we came two weeks ago.  The total of 515 miles today was far more than I've ever done in a single day.   Total for the trip was 3,538.

The temperature at the start was 54 degrees, then rose gradually to 86 degrees in Carson City, then fell to 60 degrees over the pass, then back up to 92 degrees in Jackson, peaking at 95 degrees near Stockton, then falling gradually to 66 degrees at the Richmond/San Rafael bridge.  So that was down/up, down/up, down.   Kind of extraordinary.

Scenery was grand both in Nevada and in the Sierra.  My favorite part was Carson Pass with the rounded granite, almost treeless landscape, and the deep blue mountain lakes.  But the best sight was the old homestead, and my lovely wife -- there truly is no place like home.
