Todays adgenda was to set off for a hike, we left the information centre around 10am an headed off on the Southern walk which took us up onto the top of the gorge and then around the top to "Pats Lookout". The kids were decked out in their camelpacks which were well stacked with muesli bars and apples. They have quickly learnt the drill and have been told they can take whatever fits into their packs that they can carry, Josh even pulled out a whole pack of biscuits as well !!
This hike was to be 8.5km return, our aim was to hopefully get to the southern rock pools which were high enough not to have any crocodiles in them, as its a bit tricky for them to swim up waterfalls into the rockpools
Meanwhile I was a little worried about Alby, he seems to think he is "the man verses Wild" and looking for his next adventure!! So being the good bush treker that I am I sent out a very loud COO EE , just to see if he was ok and got one straight back with what sounded like an extra expletive on the end of it! On his return he had found where the waterfall had entered a revine so we climbed our way down the edge for what he insisted was going to be a great photo.
Whilst having our photoshoot on the edge of the rock shelf with the waterfall as our backdrop, we found that we could climb all the way in to the rockpools below. Well actually we heard a huge splash and knew Alby had stripped off and jumped in !
As for Shaz, well she was happier up on the top of the rocks watching from afar, although she did climb a little way down the rock shelf when I threw a museli bar up to her and it got stuck a little below where she was sitting. Its amazing what a differnce a little chocolate chip enticement makes for her !!
The kids had a blast they were climbing the rockface and jumping into the rockpools below, although scared at first watching Jay do it, (maybe it was having to witness him in those blue jocks ) the adreneline was certainly flowing after a couple of jumps. It wasn't long before they all forgot they were in their undies (or bra and undies in Zoes case) and were oblivious to the additional audience that had gathered and were watching them.
After a couple of hours of frivolity it was time to don our clothes and shoes and hike back to camp
Four hours turnaround we arrived back at camp, and enjoyed a swim and a great bbq dinner. Chatting to our friends Brian and Elaine we have now earned the title of " Grey Nomads in Training"
What a fantastic day ....................
