Today has been the first rainy day here in Cusco. I must say, at this moment, I simply do not like it! Not only has it been raining all day, but it has been simply freezing.
With that said, I did go to work today. I was once again on the pediatric B ward (I must clarify there are two ped. wards). I don't think we had any new patients today. So, we saw the same kids. It was kind of sad to actually release some of the patients today. Many of the children were running around, simply wanting to play. They have been used to us all week, and now they are feeling well enough to run around. It was quiet adorable.
I can't really think of many things there are new. By this point, I do a lot of work with the peds ward. In fact, I was able to help do everything that needed to be done and finish work at 12:30 today. I did my usual lunch with Sarah, after we attempted to check out a fiesta in the street. Festivals are always happening here!!! Apparently there were groups of people passing through the city, and they have a parade with music, dancing, costumes, etc. when they pass through. I think it's actually a holiday in another city, but we get to partake in it. We attempted to check this out, but it simply starting poring rain. Neither one of us was dressed for such weather, and we soon gave up.
After lunch I came back to the apartment, where I attempted to take a hot shower. Of course, those don't really exist here. There is an electric switch to turn on, after you turn the water on in the shower (in case I haven't mentioned this). It is supposed to heat the water directly at the shower head. I find the only way you can possibly get warm water is if you turn the water on the lowest possible pressure. Even then it is rather spastic and doesn't always work. I have had the luxury of touching the wrong part of the metal and shocking myself, but other than that no success. So, my cold shower did not do anything to warm me up.
Since then, I have been in layers bundled up under 6 blankets. Sadly, I have still be rather cold. I must say, if Cusco was warmer-I might just love it enough to not leave. However, I don't like having winter and then traveling somewhere for another winter. I suppose it could be worse.
Anyway, that was simply my day. It was rainy and cold. I am hoping the weekend is warmer. We are going to the concert tomorrow night and river rafting on Sunday. After that, I will work four days, have one day off, and then visit Macchu Pichu. I will then have one more day to pack and fly home the day after that. So yes, I will be returning home in 10 days. It's hard to believe it is almost over. I will try to take some more pictures to post soon.
