The last two days have been simply wonderful here. I spent yesterday with Sarah and her friends—as it was another holiday (no work of school for us). We did some things around the house, and then we went into the central square. Sarah and I wondered around and asked many companies about river rafting, and I purchased my train ticket for Machu Picchu (July 9th). We then had lunch, and I even found an amazing, little, Italian coffee shop!!! Yes, that simply made my day. We basically wondered around and simply enjoyed the day. It was rather warm and refreshing. We then came home and got a pizza at this tiny, local place. They actually make the pizza in an old, adobe oven. It was simply wonderful, as I made sure we had pineapple on it!
Today was another day at the hospital. I spent today on the peds. ward again. I simply love it there. I get to play with children, and I do a lot more pharmacy-related things there. I do a lot of dosing and interpreting diagnoses. It is impressive that my boss on this ward speaks only a few words of English, yet I fully understand him most of the time. We even talk about movies when we need a break. Regardless of how much I love it, it is a much slower process with the work we do. It took about 3 hours to go around the ward twice (once to check weights and once with the doctor). We then had to do the dosing, checking info, etc. By this time, we calculate all the drugs we need before going down to the pharmacy. It was slow, because different doctors kept coming and changing things. For example, a 9 year-old boy was admitted last night for convulsions. He was border-lined coma today. I am still not sure the exact diagnosis, but different doctors kept coming to see him today. So, we had to keep changing things. Since we do everything on paper, we had to keep changing our total counts, etc. So, my days on this ward are much longer, but I do enjoy it more. I met Sarah for lunch around 1:00, and we went to our favorite restaurant, "Ricotta." We had this amazing soup, grilled chicken with fries and rice, and a yummy gelatin dessert. I then joined Sarah's friend in the central plaza, while Sarah was in class. We bought our tickets for river rafting—which will be Sunday. I am so exciting, but we will simply freeze!! We also bought tickets for a concert on Saturday night. An amazing salsa group from Cuba is coming to town, so we all plan to see them and enjoy our weekend.
That was basically my two days. I work tomorrow, with a fun-filled weekend planned. I will keep you posted as things continue to unwind. I can’t believe how fast time is flying by here.
Much Love and Blessings,
