Hi All!

We finally made it to Cobo San Lucas!  It took us 8 days and nearly 900 miles but we pulled into the marina bright and early Thursday morning.  The trip down was amazing.  The Sailing was amazing.  We only had to motor for about 14 hours out of the whole trip!  With three people (we picked up Kevin’s Buddy, Zack Tuck in San Diego.  He flew down from Seattle to do the passage with us) we held 2 hour watches with 4 hours off through the night.  A far cry from the 4 on 4 off that Kevin and I did on the way from Monterey to San Diego.  So by the time morning came around we all had a solid 8 hours of sleep and we could enjoy the da time more.

The first 3 days were great because the Mr. Roboto (the self steering gear) actually worked and we had more freedom to do things other than sit and steer.  But that quickly came to and end after we, once again, hit a patch of Kelp.  Apparently, our gear doesn’t fare quite so well against hundreds of pounds of kelp.  The boys managed to get it most of the way fixed but it still didn’t work quite right and so we avoided using it for the rest of the trip.  Another great passage to hone my steering abilities!

Day 4 was pretty awesome.  We were graced by a group of dolphins then right after they slipped away a huge group of whales swam with us for a while.  It was very cool to get to see them so close to the boat.  A group of three actually surfaced about 20 ft from the boat and then dove under the boat and surfaced on the other side.  The water was so clear that we were able to see them as they went under the boat.  It was a very cool thing to get to see.  We also got to see a few sea turtles along the way.  One was just cruising along with a little fish right under it, like they were buddies and just cruised around together all the time, it was cute.  It was just a day filled with sea life!  And it was a beautiful sunny day on top of everything else!

The boys were able to catch several tuna and one bonita along the way, which kept them pretty happy.  They got so excited every time they landed one and got to eat some good fresh fish that day!  I wasn’t quite as thrilled but at least I didn’t have to cook them dinner that way!
