Travelling by train from Wiesbaden to Houten via Utrecht, we were met by Pieter at the Houten Railway station for a short drive to Emmy's Mum & Dad's Farmhouse, in the country.

Emmy & Pieter are friends we met at our church in Gawler and happened to be visiting Emmy's parents at the same time we were going to Holland. So here we are enjoying some relaxing time with them. The house was built in the 1700's and is heritage listed, with many rooms and steep stairs leading to various parts of the house. They also have animals, a pig, chooks, sheep and of course, dogs.

After settling in, we enjoyed a meal of Lasagna with Emmy's brothers, sister, nieces and nephews and friends, quite a large gathering. Apparently this is typical of people just dropping in and sharing together. We have certainly been made to feel welcome and part of the family.

After dinner we went to Utrecht to experience a walk which is held each year over 4 nights. This was the last night and bands joined in the procession around Utrecht, approx 5kms. Pe, Emmy's Dad played the bass drum in one of the local marching bands. When asked why they do it, no one seemed to know, except that is is somethiing that has been done for many years.

After a good nights sleep and breakfast, Emmy's Mum, Charlotte, drove us all to Utrecht. Utrecht is one of the larger cities of Holland and we visited the old part of the city, very much like a mini Amsterdam, with a canal going throught it.

After visiting the old church, we headed to the Music Museum, where there lot's of old musical clocks, street organs and some large ones used in early dance halls. They are certainly a marvel of design and mechanical engineering.

Chips, ice cream and back to the farmhouse to sit and relax and enjoy the beautiful sunshine. The weather here has been almost perfect.

Tonight we hope to go for a bike ride, along with the thousands of bikers that get around the streets.

Tomorrow we catch the train to Alkmaar to meet Aneke, Melitta's cousin, for 5 nights,
