We spent the next 4 days trekking in Dogon country, a big lonely planet top 10 tick for us. Totally awesome scenery with lots of opportunities to sing the Jurassic Park theme tune and pretend that raptors were going to come and get us across the plains. Our guide was particularly pleased about this part. We slept under the stars, Spud got sick, a drunk auberge owner made his small daughter dance whilst he played the guitar, and we got to travel by cow cart. So it ticked all the boxes of West Africa, awful and awesome all at once.
Cow cart is easily one of the most pointless and slowest forms of transport in the world, possibly only beaten by the canal boat. But whilst travelling by cow cart we did get the full enjoyment of being totally humiliated by continuously getting overtaken by girls and women of all ages carrying large bundles of sticks and other incredibly heavy items on their heads whilst the white folk trundled along being pulled by a large beaten up cow. We also got to see and smell the decomposing remains of a dead donkey for far longer than if we had just been walking so that was nice.
And then on to Burkina Faso...

Hope this travel blog doesn't continue to be peppered with Spud got sick -- we got sick etc etc! The trekking sounds great but Dogon sounds like some scary place in a si-fi movie
Hopefully East Africa will be just nice!
