The conference room

After arriving a day late in Bamako (no form of transport should be described as days late!) we found a cheap hotel.  Only problem was that it was full, no matter, the owner came up with the ingeneous plan of putting us in the conference room.  After being ravaged by mosquitos while sleeping on the petrol forecourt we didn't much like the idea of sleeping in the conference room.  So I pitched the tent in there and we slept in that.......obviously!

The next day we didn't have too much time to waste as we wanted to get the ferry from Bamako to Mopti.  It set off at 10pm so we had the day to find out where it was and how much tickets were, etc.  Armed with our trusty guide book we went to the tourist information centre, before we really knew what was happening we were ushered through hallways and corridors and into an important looking office.  It was the minister for tourism's office.  We had a brief chat in broken French in which I told him "The wheel exited the bus!", much to everyones enjoyment.  He then told us about his visit to London and how he'd studied in Scotland, then he booked our ferry ticket for us.  I imagined that the minister for tourism might have better things to do than book 2 tickets for the ferry, but I've long since stop worrying about such trivial things in West Africa.
