After chilling out in Zebrabar near Saint Louis, which is a really beautiful campament along t Langue de Baberie peninsula, for a few days we felt ready to face West African transport again.  The bus from Saint Louis to Dakar is supposed to take about 6 hours, which was about accurate after a 4 hour wait it to set off.

Dakar is supposed to have a pretty lively music scene, but we didnt really get to see any of it as the unlit streets were a bit daunting after dark (wimpish Cheshire girl that I am) possibly slightly exacerbated by the fact that we seemed to be staying in a brothel.  Our suspicions were first aroused when we saw two prostitutes running away from their pimp outside the hotel.  Further clues came from some other ladies following us up the stairs as we entered and the rather heated and glass smashing male/female arguement that ensued outside our room in the wee hours of the morning.

We were quite glad to set off from Dakar to Bamako and got a taxi to the bus station near to the impressive if slightly run down football stadium North of the centre of town.  We were dropped off at the wrong side of the stadium and had to walk round entering the 'station' that was a perfect cross between Mad Max and City of God.  The bus left on time, a civilized 10 at night.  But arrived in Bamako a day late after loosing a wheel, and a night sleeping on a pertrol forecourt covered in mosquitos.  Brilliant.  Of course the bus lost a wheel.  Why wouldnt it loose a wheel.
