Once onboard the boat, we pretty much set off for our first trial dive where we could test our equipment and get our weight belts correct.  Diving in the Galapagos is cold water diving (even colder than Welly, ok maybe not in winter) and its been a while since i have dived in cold water.  I had a 7mm wetsuit including a hood, the initial suit i was given was a bit tight and a struggle to get into so i upsized and ended up with a baggier suit which filled up with water but was much easier to put on and given how often we were in and out of wetsuits that was better.

on the trial dive i took down way too much weight and dropped like a stone and had to fully inflate my BCD to have any buoyancy.  my mask was brand new and fogged up a lot so i spent a lot of time clearing my mask.

We only dived to 19 feet for 39 minutes and managed to play with some seals.  The water was cold and I was glad that i had the hood on.  The viz wasnt great but the seals were fun and i was so busy playing and dancing with them i noticed that i had lost the rest of the divers and had to fin off to find them followed by my seal friends. There were a couple of turtles, lots of moray eels... darn those are big eels .  No sharks yet.....

Dinner that evening was lovely with the crew in full uniform introducing themselves.  i walked straight pass Walter our divemaster without even recognising him in his whites.

Three courses, and wine whilst the boat sent off for our first full day of diving.  The backgammon board came out and it was soon established that Yarniv was a good player although he was looking more for chess players.

Wine, rocking of boat and soon I was asleep.
