Where I stayed
We went shopping at the Boqueria, located a ways down La Rambla, for meats, cheeses, dried fruit, bread, etc for the party tonight. The Boqueria is an amazing market full of food stalls of every variety. The colors, the smells...all very vibrant. We tasted some fabulous Spanish cheeses before we purchased two types. The kids got thirsty, so we got them some frozen fruit juices. I tasted my daughter's passionfruit juice, and oh my gosh was it good! Hot tip: Shop around for the frozen juices...we paid 1 euro; some stalls charge 2 euros.
We finished shopping for all the goodies, then took everything back to the apartment. We went back out and found a tapas place for lunch, El Cafe D'En Victor
After we ate, we went with DH to the conference center so he could make sure some product arrived from Italy. We ran into our friend from Puerto Rico at the hotel; it was nice to see him again. Then DH checked on his stuff while I watched the kids play at the playground.
From there, we went back to our area and walked around some more. Of course, we walked down La Rambla again. I'm not sure which the kids like more: the human statues or the pet stalls. We stopped by the Carrefour to get some plates, cups and napkins because there weren't enough in the apartment for everyone. Then we headed back "home" to get ready for our little gathering.
Our friends, a family of four from Puerto Rico and a couple from Belgium, arrived at about 8 pm. We all sat down, talked, and ate. We had a nice time getting caught up and talking about the woes of the day and the current economic crises around the world. While the grown-ups talked, the kids tried their best to play hide-and-seek in the tiny apartment. (Where do kids come up with ideas like that?) Anyway, we had a great time.
