We got up at 5 am (ick!) after what seemed like a VERY short night. We left the house at 6. We had to take a different freeway to LAX since last we had heard, the freeway we usually take was closed due to the wildfires. We did still see a lot of plumes of smoke in the air and even some flames. While we were on the road, we heard on the radio that it had opened back up though. We made good time anyway. (We did find out a couple days later from a relative that the fires had been contained...thank goodness).

We checked in at Wally Park and got to the airport in no time. The check-in was kind of a pain though. The self-check-in machine was not working; it wouldn't read our passports, so we had to enter everything by hand, get it approved, then check in again at the counter. It took twice as long as it should have.

Thankfully the lady took our bags there, instead of making us take them to the other bag drop-off place. Security went fine. DH thought I would have to take off my zip-up; announcements kept playing saying all jackets, sweaters, sweatshirts, etc. have to be placed in the bins. I told DH I wasn't taking it off--it's the outermost layer of my outfit and by law they can't make you take it off (granted, I was pushing it on that one).

It was my turn to go through. The security guy looked at me, I looked at him with a "go ahead and try it buddy" look, he almost said something, stopped, then said, "come on through." Ha! :b

We had a little time in the Admiral's Club, then we got to our gate and waited a little bit. Then we lined up to board. Next to me was standing Marion Ross (the mom from Happy Days). She looked very elegant.

The flight was about 5 hrs and went by fairly quickly since I dozed off and on most of the time. I woke up long enough to eat my sunflower butter and honey sandwich that we had packed for lunch (no food on this flight). This plane (and all the planes on this trip) were 767s which I HATE...no entertainment screens to keep ya busy.

All was well though...we finally had wheels up!
