It had been a very long day, but it was eventually time to board. What a relief to get settled in on the plane. I was finally on my way.

So many thoughts and questions occurred to me: what is China going to be like?, will it be hard to get through customs?, how will I do at teaching?, how many roommates will I have?, will they be nice or scary?, what are the showers going to be like?, will I be able to get the shampoo out of my hair?, etc., etc.

I had a bit of luck with my seat. No one was sitting next to me, which allowed me to stretch out a little, albeit in a contorted way.

The flight from Los Angeles to Hong Kong actually went by really fast. I slept through a great deal of the 15-hour journey. I think the stress of missing my flight, the anticipation of the trip, and my recent busy teaching schedule had worn me out, not to mention that I had also just finished my master's degree a month ago.

The only thing that interrupted my sleep were occasional, very LOUD sneezes. I discovered that Chinese men tend to sneeze as if the louder the better. Although you may think I'm stereotyping here, it was an observation that was confirmed time and time again. I found it interesting, actually. Although, being awoken by such explosions scared me half to death every time on the plane.

Anyway, all went well...and the adventure has begun.

WHEELS UP!!
