Got up relatively early so I'd have time to finish packing. We all got in the car and drove to LAX. I was very excited, but was going to miss my family a lot. We parked the car in the packed lot and walked into the international terminal, looking at the signs trying to find where the Cathay Pacific counter was. We walked up and down, but couldn't find it anywhere. We asked this man in a uniform of some sort. He mumbled something to us in unclear, accented English, something about tonight. We were, like, whatever.

We finally went to a lone guy at one of the counters of another airline and asked him. He looked up my flight and information. Bad news. I missed my flight...by 12 hours. Yes, I had read the schedule wrong and didn't realize it was in military time. It was supposed to be 1:15 in the f'ing morning! Yes, I'm stupid. And, OH MY GOD, I MISSED MY FLIGHT TO CHINA!!!!! This was just the beginning of a series of challenges I would face as I made my journey to my destination.

We went and sat down. I called Cathay Pacific, because as the man mumbled to us, no one would be at the counter until tonight. After talking to a couple different people, I was told there was one seat left that I could have on tonight's flight at 11:50. I'll take it! I used my phone to email the hotel in Hong Kong to tell them I would be coming in a day late. Rob was not happy. (Nor was I for that matter). I would miss a day/night in HK, I had to pay $50 to change flights, I probably had a crappy seat on the plane now instead of premium economy that I paid for and I probably lost the cost of the first night's room in HK. I eventually got an email from the hotel saying that, yes, they're aware of my reservation and issue, but I would still have to pay for both nights. Figures.

We decided to go get something to eat once I had my flight figured out. We almost ate at the restaurant in that cool, futuristic building at the airport, but they appeared to have only 4 parking spaces that were full. So we went to Proud Bird. I had seen it a million times on Aviation Rd going to and from the airport. It could be a really cool place if they made some changes. We felt it would be a great place for Gordon Ramsey to do a restaurant makeover.

It was fun watching the planes coming in to land through the big windows. The food was pretty sucky. The server tried, but she was not very good. She refilled the boys' tea with coke and tried to upsell everything. Plus, there's some sort of weird "Living Tax" that the guy ended up taking off anyway. I would think that you couldn't do that by choice. ???

We then went to Culver City. We were going to go get drinks at Starbucks, for me that's a Trenta black iced tea, no water, light ice, two Splendas. But, no, there was a power outtage, so it was closed. My favorite thrift shop was also closed. WTF?? We did find a killer gelato shop though, and Hunter and I got some dairy-free gelato. Soooo good.

They dropped me off and I hung out for awhile, then checked in at the self-check kiosk. I'm glad I did, because I could choose my seat and was able to get an aisle seat in the middle. It wasn't the window I was supposed to have, but it was in Premium Economy. What a relief. At least something went right.

It's almost 9:30, and the BA flight to London at my gate just finished boarding. Lionel Richie was one of the last people to board.

It's 9:40, the BA counter people are freaking out because they offloaded the wrong bag. A young passenger, born in 1989, going to Kuwait, did not show up after checking in. [I wonder if they realize how loud they are talking.] They had to take off his checked bag, but took off someone else's bag instead. The plane has already left the gate.

Someone has to call the tower to get the plane back before it takes off to get the right bag off and the wrong bag back on. They had looked for this guy for awhile before they closed the doors, including paging him throughout the terminal and going up and down the hall calling his name. They're trying to call the tower, security, somebody to get the plane stopped before it takes off. I think their day is going worse than mine. Lionel's going to be pissed.

I guess I'll never know what happened...the BA people just left.
