So, we have the broker working on loans in France. She's not very good at it. Today we got an email from her saying one of the banks in VdR she was talking to denied us a loan because my husband is self-employed and that they are not confident in the real estate market there (in VdR).

Excuse me? So they'd rather the buildings in the medieval center of town just sit there and rot????? OMG.

Anyway, we were already planning on going to Irvine today to a branch office of an international bank that hubby has been talking to (in France) via email. In order for them to look at our application we have to open an account. Yep, you read that right.

Not only that...it cost $200 to do it. The bank officer had to verify our signatures and then send the paperwork to France (Paris), where I guess they'll open an account; that service required the fee. Of course, we found out that we had to pay in cash or by check. Who the hell carries a checkbook anymore???? She wouldn't take our debit card, so I had to go outside to their ATM machine to withdraw the $200 (plus pay a $3 fee, of course). What a crock of shit.

I asked my husband why he couldn't just open the account when he's in Paris in early September. Well, 'cause I'd have to be there, that's why. Oh, yeah. Every step we try to take is like crawling on jagged rocks, and so far...we haven't gone anywhere, just felt the pain.
