After the recent terrorist attack (Christmas Day) by the Nigerian guy who is affiliated with the Yemen Al Queda, we knew we had to be at the airport extra early. We got up at 5 am, which was especially difficult since the nitwits in the room next door decided to come back to the hotel and party at 3:30 am. It was a short night.

We took a taxi to the hotel rather than deal with dragging our luggage to the train station and taking the S-bahn. The taxi cost 25 euros, but we had to make sure we got to the airport at a good time.

The taxi took no time at all. In fact, we were there before the American Airlines ticket counter opened. We were the second in line for the priority queue, so that was good. We had to all stand around the check in guy and answer a dozen or so questions about our luggage like, "where and when we packed it," "how long we have owned the luggage," "has it been in our possession," "did anyone give us anything to put in our luggage," etc. Then we were shown pictures of dangerous items and were asked if we had any of those things in our bags. Only then could we proceed to get our boarding passes.

We checked all four bags, even the kids' small suitcases that we normally carry on, since we know that hand luggage may be searched. We grabbed "breakfast" at the Admirals Club, but unfortunately, it is located outside the security area.
