"The Mother Church of the Anglican World"
We saw Canterbury Cathedral on a tour from London. We enjoyed it very much, and probably our only disappointment was that we didn't get to spend more time in the town itself.
The cathedral was amazing. I had never seen such intricate, yet incredibly old architecture before (this was my first trip to Europe). I was in awe. We spent quite a lot of time roaming around the inner sanctums of this great building looking at the details and workmanship that went into it.
Canterbury was an important town in ancient Roman times. The cathedral was rebuilt in 1174 after a great fire and had been an important sacred pilgrimage site. Geoffrey Chaucer wrote Canterbury Tales in 1387.
