We traveled to San Pedro Del Norte in, what we deemed affectionately as our Rainbow Bus From Hell. A big school bus from the 70s, colorful and lively, wrought full of holes that traveled down a dirt and stone road that felt more like a dry riverbed. Our driver had her three sons with her, two riding on the roof, who would hop down to fix the bus every half hour or pour water from every river we crossed over the engine block to cool it down. Even with the cracked leather seats cutting into our backsides or sliding off altogether, this was voted the best mode of transportation when in Nicaragua.
