We woke up this morning to find that Santa had found us in our little cabin in the Arctic. Kids had a great morning playing with their presents and then we joined our group for a snow shoe walk through the forest to a special tree where elves took the kids' thank you letters to Santa. We toasted marshmallows on a fire and drank hot chocolate, before hiking back to the hotel for more tobogganing before lunch.

Tom is now ensconced in his new IPod touch with his new mates, Penny is colouring her new Princess and the Popstar colouring book, Kirky is drinking red wine with a new investment banker buddy from Singapore and Mum is blogging. Life is good here in Lapland.

Update - rest of the day was brilliant. Kids went tobogganing after lunch with their mates, and then a few families got together and built a snowman. I had brought a carrot from Helsinki to use as his nose, plus an old scarf, so he really looked the part.

By the evening we were well and truly bonded with a couple of other families and had a fun evening in the bar drinking red wine and sharing stories while the kids played. There is a family from Perth who are moving to Brisbane Street Bulimba late January, with an 8 year old girl starting in grade 4 at Bulimba Stare School! What a strange coincidence. Lucky we get on really well with them - would be terribly embarrassing if we didn't.

We are sharing the hotel with a French tour group who have a magician and guitar playing singer/kid wrangler on tour. So civilised. Funny hearing Bob Dylan and John Cougar Mellencamp songs in French. Kids have not bonded with the French though - there are 2 very separate camps of kids who are extremely suspicious of each other. Is interesting to watch. French kids refuse to speak English to our kids even though we know they can. Tom has tried to learn a few choice phrases ("get lost") but it hasn't been very successful...

Tomorrow huskies - can't wait!!
