After a scrummy breakfast made by Ian, we were grateful for a few last tips for life on the road before leaving at about 11 and crossing into New South Wales. Our first fuel stop in Corowa was our only stop on the sleepy, but very pretty drive to Wagga Wagga, where we were heading to stay with Kirk's cousins, Andrew and Natalie Osborne. We remember their beautiful property from the pictures when it was being built, and stop in awe at their view over Wagga. What a prime spot! It could only be better seen from the air, which is pretty convenient given they are both pilots for Rex Airways, and they soon have us both questioning why we never took to the skies. It surely must be the best job possible, and it doesn’t take us long before we both start considering a career change, especially having seen pictures of their life as pilots around Australia, and the video of Andrew’s trip to Birdsville. I am going to try and wangle an extension to the trip so we can make it to the races there. It seems like a once in a lifetime experience, and is on from Sep 1 – 3 this year, so if anyone feels like joining us, get in touch!
Whilst Nat has an afternoon flight to Melbourne and back, Kirk and I enjoy a fun afternoon with Andrew and their gorgeous children Ava (4) and Ted (2), as well as Sofia (their lovely German au pair) playing games, drawing and topped off with a musical performance. When Nat returns, we polish off a few bottles of red and she lives us to her reputation as an unbelievable chef. Nat, we are not surprised that it was on your mind at take-off, we are still talking about the boeuf bourguignon and I am going to try and re-create it at some stage on the trip. YUM!
Thank you Andrew, Nat, Ava and Ted for your amazing hospitality and looking after us so well.
