Having been there before there was not much we wanted to do other than get ready for the rest of SE Asia.
We stayed in the Hotel Royal which is nearish to Orchard Road.
- Given the exchange rate for the once mighty UKP is down the pan our hopes of finding some "cheap" items that we wanted were dashed BIG TIME!
- We did the much revered walk up and down Orchard Street and I even tempted myself with a stroll into the Sincere Watch Company shop - looked around and found that all watches were 20% more expensive than London prices!!! Given that we bought Ems a watch there 3 years ago almost to the day and picked it up at 30% cheaper than we could in London ----shows exactly how bad things have got!
- We did however hunt all the camping shops and bought a few odds and ends for our jungle trekking that we have planned for Borneo. (Stupidly we had bought short trekking socks in December as we thought that given the heat this would be a great plan... however given the recent "Ems and the Giant Leech" experience in Aus, we have now been advised that 'leech-proof" socks are a must for all jungle trekking in SE Asia!!
Anyway, Singapore is a very pretty city and it is easy to see why Monty Donn refers to it as a City within a garden. Hot humid and very lush. We took a few pics to show the contrasts of architecture and the colonial feel to the place...
