Decided to make a short stop at this historical site while heading to Black Mountain, N.C. This is were the Civil War Battle of Bull Run I and II took place. The Confederates won round 1. This battle set the tone of the War. This was considered the first major conflict between two evenly matched forces. This was a bloody affair. The grounds were preserved exactly as they were back in 1862! Its hard to believe that such a beautiful place was a killing field.

We parked by the Stone House which served as a hospital for the Federals army during the war. The girls got to explore a bit and roll down the hills. They absolutely love to roll down hills. Our cat got out for just a few minutes and she immediately ran back in the RV. Scary cat she is. The girls found a mole rat near the edge of the tall grass bordering the parking lot. What an ordeal to get them to leave the little animal alone. They love nature so much. All creatures big and small are sacred. You'd think Pocahontas reincarnated in them or something. Well we were able to eat dinner by the Stone House before dark. Yes we got out just before they close the gate on us. We kept driving until we found a Food Lion and decided to call it a night. What we thought was a perfect spot to stop turned out not too perfect. It was apparently a hang out place for some teenagers. They left and we thought great we'll get to sleep but no way. They came back later. I guess there are no discos or pubs. Who would have thought a Food Lion parking lot could be a teenage hang out place. Weird. Oh well, should have gone to the K-Mart parking lot instead. lol.
