Beautiful Hawaii.
Yesterday we celebrated beautiful Wendy's Birthday! We decided to go the the polynesian cultural centre, but it was not open yet as we are still on the wrong clock and get up really early...
So we decided to follow the coast back and went to a place called Hale'iwa it was a really cute beach town with Hawaiian themed stores and shops. Of Course we had to have shaved ice, and all though there were shaved ice places on every corner, there is apparently one that is better than all the rest called Matsumoto's. It was great, the kids loved it.
Then we did some tourist shopping including hula skirts, Leigh's and coconut bra's for the young ladies and shark teeth necklaces for the young men followed by some amazing hamburgers at a local joint!
In the afternoon we headed back to the house for a swim and some local coconut birthday cake and a swim.
As we were swimming a large turtle came swimming up to us and it looked like it was eating a plastic bag and he kept swimming towards me so I thought the poor thing was choking on the bag and I almost panicked trying to help him out. I was reaching for the "bag" but couldn't reach it, so Maija tossed me her goggles, and I dove under to reach for it, just as I was about to grab it I saw that is was not a bag at all, it was a white dead octopus !!! ugh, disgusting! He was just not very shy and he was having his dinner. So much for me saving the choking sea turtles, lol.
Then our beautiful girls put on their new grass skirts and did a hola show for us on the beach!.
In the evening Wendy and Russ went to Turtle Bay resort for dinner and Jonas and I had Taco night with the kids. It was great, a nice walk on the beach and playing on the swings.
This morning we woke up early again but mikael came running in and he was so sick. He had a high temperature and was feeling really lousy. Jonas stayed home with Mikael in the morning and we headed to Waimea Falls which is right here on the North Shore. It is a beautiful historic site and botanical garden and of course there is a great waterfall with a logon for swimming. We loved it and all went for a swim. We saw some amazing trees, with intricate root systems and branches as well as unique flowers and fauna. There were games for the kids and little craft stations and the ladies were so great. They taught the kids how to play traditional instruments and dance. Then they made little fishes out of leafs by brading and played traditional Hawaian games.
The thought was that we would do that in the morning and come home get Mikael and jonas and go to the Polynesian centre. When we got home we had some lunch and mikaels fever spiked again so we decided not to go. We went to sunset beach for a sunset swim and just had some great fried chicken for dinner. It has been a great day if it wasnt for Mikael being sick. Oh yeah we also went for a treasure hunt using Geocache!!! it is the coolest thing you can track buried little treasures all over the world. WE actually found two. The kids got a turtle button from one and sea shells from the other. We put in canada buttons, and bracelets in the other. It is really cool , if you have not tried it you should download the app and try it, it is so cool!!
Well time to open up a bottle, sip some bubbly and listen to the waves here on the balcony of our lovely temporary beach home here in Hawaii. Tomorrow we are off to Waikiki and a submarine tour! Fun.
Aloah all....xoxox
